Volunteers

Thank you so much for your interest in working at Camp Camellia Rose this year.  For those of you who are new to camp, welcome!  For those of you returning, welcome back!

We’ve got a great week planned and know we could not make any of it happen without you.

We start accepting volunteer applications on January 2nd.  ALL VOLUNTEERS AT CAMP MUST BE REGISTER GIRL SCOUTS WITH AN APPROVED BACKGROUND CHECK ON FILE.  If you are not already a member, please go to the Girl Scout website to become a member – https://girlscouts.secure.force.com/

One of the many advantages to working at camp is that you get to register your child(ren) now and don’t have to worry about camp filling up.  Another is the fact that you receive a  discount on camp fees.  Yet, one of the biggest advantages to volunteering is the fact that it truly is a lot of fun.

At camp, we have four different categories of campers:

  • Campers – girls who are in grades 1-7 (Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes)
  • Camp Assistants (CATs) – girls, in 9th grade or above, who have completed their Camp Assistant training and assist the camp staff in teaching and leading the campers.
  • Tag-A-Longs – 3-5 year old girls and 3-6 year old boys who are with us because their mom or dad is a camp volunteer.  We are very focused on making sure that these kids are kept happy and fed.  They must be potty trained before attending camp.
  • Boys – yes, we have a Boys unit, rising 2nd graders through 12 years old.  These boys are also with us as staff kids.  Their leaders are fearless and help these guys forget that they’re at Girl Scout Camp.  A BOY MUST BE ENTERING SECOND GRADE BEFORE HE CAN BE PLACED IN THIS UNIT.  BOYS ENTERING FIRST GRADE WILL STILL BE CONSIDERED TAG-A-LONGS.

You can get the Volunteer Application and the Child Registration forms from our REGISTRATION link at the right side of the page.  Fill out all forms (one for each child, including Tag-A-Longs and Boys), making sure that you and your camper(s) sign the Behavioral Agreement.

The camp fee for “staff kids” – children of camp volunteers –  is $55/child, including Tag-A-Longs and Boys.  For older girls participating in the Overnight, the fee is $80.

Volunteer registration will be closed when we reach 60 applicants.

TIP – When asked your camper’s grade, we mean the grade that she/he will be in NEXT YEAR (the 2018-2019 school year), not the grade that she is currently in.  Our units are formed based on campers’ grades, so please make sure to enter that information correctly or your camper will be placed in the wrong unit.  For Tag-a-Longs, you can enter their age.  For Boys you can enter their grade (boys must be at least entering 1st grade to be placed in this unit).

Volunteering at camp requires some training to make sure that everyone knows how to help the campers have fun and stay safe.  Please look at these dates carefully before making the commitment to join us.  If you are unable to attend the training, you should reconsider volunteering this year.

As you will see from the meeting agendas, we cover everything you will need to know about being a camp staffer at our training meetings.  Your job title will be Unit Leader, and you and a co-leader will be responsible for a group (“Unit”) of 12-15 girls.  Your main job is to make sure that the girls are safe.  All of the activities and events are planned for you, so you will just have to follow a daily schedule.

Important Dates for our Volunteers are listed here.

Camp Camellia Rose is held at Wildlife Action camp ground in Acworth.  Located right on Lake Allatoona, our campers are ferried across the lake each morning and afternoon.  It is a beautiful location that helps make Camp Camellia Rose exciting and unique.

Directions to Wildlife Action

Take I-575 to Towne Lake Pkwy Exit 8.  At end of ramp, turn west onto Towne Lake Pkwy.  At the McDonald’s, continue straight through this intersection where the road becomes Eagle Drive.  Follow Eagle Drive till road ends at Bells Ferry Rd.  Turn Right onto Bells Ferry. Go to next traffic light and turn left onto Kellogg Creek Rd.  After turning onto Kellogg Creek, go approximately one mile and turn left into Wildlife Action Camp Ground.  The camp sign is a canoe.  Follow gravel road to parking area.

Thanks again for your interest in working at Camp Camellia Rose.  We promise it will be an unforgettable experience for you.

We’re very excited to have you join us and look forward to another great week!
